“I call him the praying mantis,” Lions HC Dan Campbell hypes up WR Josh Reynolds ahead of the new season
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has put his weight of support behind the veteran wide receiver, Josh Reynolds ahead of a testing 2022 NFL season for the franchise. The Lions have quite the depth in talent in the wide receiving position with the likes of Amon-Ra St. brown, D.J. Chark, and rookie Jameson Williams forming a devastating trio.
However, the fact that their rookie signing Williams is nursing an ACL tear, and a return date has not been set on him, has made Dan Campbell go back to Reynolds, who he believes will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming season.
Dan Campbell predicted a big season for Josh Reynolds
Dan Campbell spoke very highly of Josh Reynolds, who joined the Lions midway through 2021 from the Tennesse Titans. The head coach claimed that he has an excellent relationship with Lions quarterback Jared Goff, and predicted a big season from the 27-year-old.
“I like this guy, I’m kind of buying stock on him,” Campbell told reporters on Saturday. “I think he could have a big year. He’s a smooth athlete and a grinder, he’s smart and Jared (Goff) trusts him. And so I can’t say enough about that room in general, and he’s a big piece of that.”
Speaking further on Josh Reynolds, Campbell called him ‘the praying mantis,’ given the kind of agility he possesses. Reynolds proved to be a great addition to the Detroit Lions last season as he amassed 19 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns in seven games.
“I’ll tell you what, he’s different now,” Campbell said, continuing to describe Reynolds. “He’s a different athlete. He’s slippery, man. I call him the praying mantis. He’s a spider of death. He’s just — there’s something about him. Freaking serpent. So, I love where he’s at right now. I really do, I’m glad we got him.”
