The reason why Brad Allen insisted upon Dan Skipper's reporting was probably after he saw him coming in and just assumed that he was the player reporting.

A new clip emerged on the surface of the internet from the chaotic match between the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys. It seems like, Dan Campbell lost his temper on the sidelines when referee Brad Allen ‘wrongfully’ flagged offensive tackle Taylor Decker, resulting in the Lions’ eventual loss by 20-19.

What happened was, in the last 23 seconds of Saturday’s game, the Lions decided to go forward with a two-point conversion, as head coach Campbell wasn’t in favour of overtiming and jeopardizing the title’s hopes. For the two-point, quarterback Jared Goff found the offensive tackle Decker, who succeeded.

It could have been the Lions’ other victory, but referee Allen penalized Decker for not reporting as the eligible receiver, and therefore his touching the ball became illegal and two-point was annulled.

Allen’s claim of Decker not reporting him contradicted the words of Decker and the quarterback, who affirmed that he had reported, but Dan Skipper did not. Filled with frustration, head coach Campbell couldn’t control himself, as he was seen shouting and ranting at the NFL official Allen for wrongfully penalizing Decker which resulted in their loss.

Campbell said, “We warned you (or him) Brad,” adding that he had confirmed the whole thing prior to the game. So the reason why Allen insisted upon Skipper’s reporting was probably after he saw him coming in and just assumed that he was the player reporting.

Brad Allen’s one-call cost the Detroit Lions the No.1 NFC seed

Entering week 17, the Lions were quite confident about their victory over the Cowboys, who had been on a two-game losing streak against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins in weeks 15 and 16, respectively. While the Lions were on a two-game winning streak.

However, the one call made by referee Allen of flagging an offensive tackle Decker with an illegal touching penalty, negated Detroit’s 21-20 lead and cost a 5-yard penalty. If that didn’t have happened, Detroit would have won the game and secured the No. 1 NFC seed.

But now, they are tied alongside the Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers at 11-5 season-standing. After the penalizing decision, in the pool report, Allen had claimed:

Number 70 [Skipper] did report, but Number 68 [Decker] did not.

He also stated that in the video in which Decker and Skipper were seen going to Brad, it was Skipper who reported and that’s why he went to the Dallas Cowboys and let them know who has reported for the game.
