Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, maintains a strong image of himself both on and off the turf. McDaniel rarely shies away from speaking his mind. This time, he has gone one step above. Ahead of the game against the Dallas Cowboys in week 16, the HC was seen uttering some words to the Dolphins legend Dan Marino. The entire incident took place on the sidelines.
The Dolphins HC was heard shouting to the legendary Dolphins character present during the game against the Cowboys:
F*** your records, Dan. We're coming for your records.
As a Dolphins quarterback, Marino had a 17-year-long career. Though he never won a Super Bowl, he is still considered one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game. Marino retired with a stellar record of more than 61,000 passing yards with 420 touchdowns and 252 interceptions. He completed 4,967 passes out of his 8,358 attempts.
What is more intriguing is his record in the 1984 season. He completed 48 touchdowns in a single year. In addition, he registered 5,084 passing yards. He is seventh in all-time passing touchdown numbers.
McDaniel’s words have an interesting angle. This year, the Miami Dolphins have made a lot of records. With their 11-4 winning record, they also have garnered a lot of other numbers that can create envy for other teams.
The Dolphins have registered the most number of passing yards (4,288). They come under the top ten in terms of gaining the most number of touchdowns (27) and the team is tied for the most first-down records (201). With all these, the team is eying for more, and Dan Marino’s records can be their next target.
The Dolphins have cemented their place in the postseason
The Miami Dolphins became the second team after the Baltimore Ravens to qualify for the postseason. The victory against the Dallas Cowboys ensured for them a place in the playoffs.
Ahead of the game against the Cowboys, the Dolphins never beat a team with a winning record or was on a winning streak. After beating the Dallas-based team, McDaniel shared with the media that,
You want to be playing the best football teams in December and January. You want to go toe to toe with them, and you want to earn victories. To do that, we’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to play the Baltimore Ravens this week.
The Dolphins are one of the contenders for this year’s Super Bowl. It is to be seen whether they can make it to that after 50 years of their last Super Bowl victory.
