Just like the last NFL off-season, the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson are struggling to get a long-term contract extension done in this off-season too. Both parties are reportedly $100 million apart in their offers and it would take a long time to reach a middle ground when the difference is that big.
Since the former All-Pro QB Lamar Jackson doesn’t have an agent and represents himself with the help of his mother Felicia Jones, there is no real clarity about Jackson’s counter offers. But according to multiple reports, it is believed that the former league MVP quarterback is asking for a fully guaranteed deal that exceeds the pay grade of the Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson.
However, according to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, a source from Lamar Jackson‘s camp revealed that Jackson never asked for a fully guaranteed contract. There are many contradicting theories regarding the long contract extension talks between the Baltimore Ravens and the dual-threat quarterback Jackson. However, one thing is true, whatever the 2-time Pro Bowl QB is asking, the Ravens are not willing to give him that.
Furthermore, whatever the Baltimore-based football team is offering Jackson, he is not willing to play for them on that deal. This has been going on for almost a year now and the ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that Lamar Jackson is starting to feel disrespected by his team.
Dan Orlovsky talks about Lamar Jackson potentially getting franchise tagged

If Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson can’t reach to an agreement in a few days, the franchise would end up tagging Jackson to keep him playing for their team one more year.
However, the ESPN analyst and the former Detroit Lions QB Dan Orlovsky believes that Jackson, who already played one year on a franchise tag, would feel disrespected if his team decided to tag him again.
“I would feel disrespected if I was Lamar, if I got the non-exclusive franchise tag because you’re basically saying, ‘We’re going to tag you, but if somebody else wants to give us a ton for you, then they can come and take you off of our hands,'” said Dan Orlovsky during his appearance in a recent episode of the ESPN show Get Up.
There have been previous instances when a QB played in a franchise tag in back-to-back years. Washington Commanders tagged Kirk Cousins twice and the Cowboys tagged Dak Prescott two times as well.
Both of those QBs ended up getting a huge contract after getting tagged two times. Cousins secured a 3-year of $84 million with the Minnesota Vikings and Prescott signed a 4-year $160 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys. So, Lamar Jackson could get tagged a second time by the Ravens and still secure a huge contract in the future.
