‘Beginning of the end’ Dan Orlovsky STRONGLY believes the Ravens shouldn’t place the franchise tag on Lamar Jackson

The ‘will they or won’t they’ drama in Baltimore is still going on and honestly, everyone in the league is so over it. It’s the same cycle repeated every few weeks. The Ravens give a lowball offer to Lamar Jackson who rejects it. Then they add another $5-10 million to the same contract and offer it up, which gets rejected once again.
ESPN’s Ryan Clark revealed that the Ravens last offered Jackson a $133 million fully guaranteed. To put things in perspective, the Cardinals gave Kyler Murray $160 million fully guaranteed, and he hasn’t even won a league MVP, unlike Jackson who won in 2019 unanimously. It seems like Baltimore is disrespecting a talent like Lamar with such a lowball offer.
As per the latest bite by Ravens’ executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens are planning to hash out a deal until the franchise tag deadline on March 7. If the team is unable to close a deal by 3:30 pm (the trade deadline), they will place a franchise tag on Lamar and keep him for one more year.

Lamar Jackson is most likely to be franchise tagged

Many fans have already theorized that Lamar Jackson will not play in the 2023 season if he is placed on the franchise tag by the Ravens and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky is also of the same opinion. “I just think that’s the beginning of the end for Lamar in Baltimore if the non-exclusive tag gets placed on him,” Orlovsky said of the going contract extension fiasco in Baltimore.
“I also think it is very dangerous in the locker room and I just think you are sending a message. This guy has been the model for your [Baltimore’s] organization. He is a tremendous football player. This offense without Lamar averages 16 points a game in the NFL last year. That’s the worst. They are the second-best scoring offense in NFL with him playing.”
In the five years Lamar Jackson has been the quarterback of the Ravens, he has a 45-16 record with a 63.7 average completion percentage. Other than his exceptional throwing arm, where he amassed 12,209 yards for 101 touchdowns, he is extremely efficient on his legs as well. He has rushed for over 4,400 yards in his career. These stats scream elite quarterback who can win multiple Super Bowls.
If the Ravens are unable to see the worth of Jackson, Dan Orlovsky suggested that the New York Jets scoop him up without a second thought and pay him whatever he wants because letting go of such a talent is a big mistake. No one wishes to be on the sidelines thinking we could’ve been there lifting the Lombardi Trophy if only we had signed him when the opportunity presented itself.
Everything depends on which tag is placed on Lamar Jackson. If the non-exclusive tag is placed, then teams can talk with Jackson and find a way to strike a deal, but if an exclusive stage is placed, then it won’t be possible. Everything will be crystal clear in just a few hours!
