The San Francisco 49ers are suddenly having a tough time. After their five-game winning streak, the team has suddenly lost two games in a row. Now, they are carrying a record of 5-2. They will be up against the mighty Cincinnati Bengals in their next encounter. It will be a home game for the 49ers. However, the fans and the management are not fully happy as Brock Purdy is undergoing the concussion protocol ahead of the clash. The team is still unsure about his starting status against the Bengals. In case Purdy misses the game, Sam Darnold is expected to carry the team forward in the coming time.
The 49ers traded Darnold this offseason and the game against the Bengals would be his debut for the San Francisco franchise. Darnold hasn’t been anywhere near the elite QBs in the NFL over the years but if he gets an opportunity in Purdy’s absence, it could be a monumental moment in his career as he’ll take on Joe Burrow- one of the best QBs in the league currently.
However, if someone has his full faith in the player then he is none other than Dan Orlovsky from ESPN. The analyst, in the recent episode of ‘Get Up,’ praised him and believed that Darnold could very well help the 49ers cross the finish line. According to Orlovsky, the 49ers have a very solid all-around team and hence, they should just be fine without Purdy against a struggling Bengals’ defense.
If Brock Purdy doesn't play, I do not expect them to skip a beat. I think they will be just fine with Sam Darnold. I have constantly believed that if Sam Darnold was placed that was similar to San Francisco, he would play worthy of that top draft pick.Dan Orlovksy on Get Up
Dan Orlovsky dubs Sam Darnold as the most talented QB in Kyle Shanahan’s offense physically
Dan Orlovksy also boldly claimed that at least physically, Sam Darnold is the most talented quarterback Kyle Shanahan has had in his offense since Matt Ryan.
He's the most talented quarterback, physically, that Kyle Shanahan has had in that offense – at least since Matt RyanDan Orlovsky on Get Up
This is not the first time the analyst praised the player. In August, the analyst claimed that either Brock Purdy or Sam Darnold could take the 49ers to the Super Bowl because of the kind of strong team they have.
I think Brock Purdy and/or Sam Darnold can take [the 49ers] to the Super Bowl, if I'm being dead honest. Absolutely. Sam Darnold is incredibly talented. He's the most talented quarterback they have on the roster throwing-the-ball-wise.
Sam Darnold’s career never took off because of either persistent injuries or poor coaching decisions. He was drafted in 2018, before Joe Burrow, but is yet to make a name for himself. With a solid coach like Kyle Shanahan backing him now, he would eagerly want to prove his mettle at the 49ers this season.
