The Daniel Jones era in New York has officially begun as the quarterback for the team agreed to sign a four-year contract worth $160 million. As per the newest contract, Jones will get $82 million guaranteed money and with this, New York’s hunt for the team’s quarterback will end for the foreseeable future. The deal was finalized just hours before the deadline for the franchise tag. In the event the two sides could not reach an agreement, the Giants would have placed the tag on their QB.
However, since the two sides were able to agree to the same terms, the New York Giants placed the franchise tag on their running back Saquon Barkley. 2022 was the final year of Daniel Jones‘ rookie deal and it was also a do-or-die year for him in which he had to prove his worthiness. He ended up playing the best football of his professional career and, as a result, Head Coach Brian Daboll was convinced in his skillset.
Under Daniel Jones, the New York Giants were able to have a winning season with a 9-7-1 record and the team made the playoffs for the first time since 2011. While they did get bounced in the NFL Divisional Round, this season was still a success for Giants fans as the team did not disappoint this year. The quarterback ended this season with 3,205 yards thrown and merely 5 interceptions thrown.

Daniel Jones has proven that he can consistently get better
The new deal entitles Daniel Jones to $35 million in the form of incentives apart from the guaranteed amount as per sources. With this, the Giants retained both their star players, the quarterback and their running back Saquon Barkley. The RB had the non-exclusive franchise tag placed on him. He will make an estimated $10.091 million this year. GM Joe Schoen had made it clear that the team wanted to retain both of them and with this move, the organization has succeeded.
Daniel Jones’ contract was an integral factor as it impacted the Giants’ plans for their running back as well. The initial plan of the team was to use their franchise tag on their QB if both sides could not reach a deal and this would have been a bad move as it would have resulted in the team’s running back becoming a free agent.
While Jones did improve by leaps and bounds this season, Barkley’s contribution cannot be overlooked. He was healthy this season and made important contributions by rushing for 1,310 yards this season. He had 10 touchdowns and won the AP Comeback Player of the Year award. With this, Giants’ fans can remain reassured and optimistic for the future as this team has a lot of talent and potential which they put on display this year. If the Jets end up getting Aaron Rodgers, New York football is surely about to get a lot more exciting!
