It’s tough being a famous person, especially a football player. That’s why they prefer to avoid overcrowded places and opt for peace, like Daniel Jones.
The New York Giants quarterback needs some alone time after another disappointing year in the NFL. Since entering the NFL as the sixth overall pick, Jones has only managed one positive season in 2022 (9-6-1). This was enough for the franchise to hand the Duke graduate a four-year, $160 million deal.
However, it backfired on them in 2023. Jones only played six games, winning only one, before picking up a season-ending ACL injury in Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Fast forward to Sunday, March 17, when a video surfaced of Daniel Jones walking down a pathway (possibly in New York) when a fan got over-excited and started calling out his name.
Well, Jones had to calm him down. He told the fan who shot the video to ‘chill out.’ Funny enough, the man quickly apologized for his pompous behavior and said, ‘My bad.’
Will Daniel Jones remain with the New York Giants?
Keeping in mind the quarterback merry-go-around and Daniel Jones’ below-average record, it will not surprise Rich Eisen if the Giants decide to cut the 26-year-old. The NFL insider and the host of The Rich Eisen Show had previously claimed that the blue half of the Big Apple is done with Jones.
The Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. They might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it, and they feel that ain’t it. The words I heard at the Combine multiple times were ‘buyer’s remorse.Eisen said during one of his segments.
However, general manager Joe Schoen has faith in his quarterback. During the NFL Combine, he spoke with the media and provided much-awaited clarification.
I have faith in Daniel as our starting quarterback.Schoen said.
After Jones’ injury last season, Tommy DeVito shared game time with Tyrod Taylor. The veteran Taylor recently joined cross-town rivals the New York Jets, but there’s no new update on where the Giants stand on DeVito.
They recently added former Seattle Seahawks QB Drew Lock to fill Taylor’s vacancy. In the meantime, they also met Russell Wilson, who later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Athletic‘s Jeff Howe reported that Wilson did not further his talks with the Big Apple side because they said Jones would remain the starter in 2024.
What happens if the Giants cut Jones?
The Giants have very limited options for Jones. They need to wait until 2025 and then cut him because of the salary issue.
During the 5th day of the 2025 league year, Jones’ $12 million of $30 million will be guaranteed. Per CBS Sports, the Giants will have $33.315 million of dead money when they part ways with him after 2025.
This will be an $8.29 million cap savings because Jones’ cap number in 2025 is $41.605 million.
