The Philadelphia Eagles were almost on the edge of losing both their starting cornerbacks James Bradberry and Darius Slay. Thankfully, the team signed back both stars. However, there was a window when Slay was released by the Eagles and fans suspected he would land someplace else. Philly didn’t let that happen which is a good thing since they have to plug a few holes in their championship defense.

The Eagles defense was at its best last year as they were ranked in the top 3 during the entire regular season. They had the best pass-rush defense and secondary in the league. However, Mike Missanelli, host of “The Mike Missanelli Podcast” replied to a tweet that Darius Slay, who was at the helm of the Eagles defense, ‘wasn’t a very good corner last year.’

Of course, Darius Slay had to put the reporter in his place and remind him why Philly had the best defense in the 2022 season. The star cornerback tweeted, “Never even heard of u so u must be very ass at your job.. I think we was #1 in pass defense sooo I think I was damn damn good last yr!”

Darius Slay was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. In March 2020, he was traded to the Eagles and signed a three-year $50 million contract with $30 million fully guaranteed with the team. Slay’s contract was up after last season and he was hopeful of signing an extension with the team.

The Eagles released him on March 15 and then resigned him to the roster a day later on March 16. The final year of Slay’s contract was restructured and a two-year extension was signed.

Darius Slay had three interceptions in 2022 and 55 total tackles which isn’t a great performance. However, his stats along with that of James Bradberry, shine in a different light. Simply put, Bradberry and Slay complement each other and as a pair, the two will have much success in the coming seasons. Bradberry who was the culprit of the Eagles Super Bowl LVII loss as per fans, also signed a three-year $43 million contract after he was a free agent.

Let’s hope the Eagles’ defense is as good as it was last year and they can make it back to the finals and lift their second Lombardi Trophy.
