On Saturday, the Houston Texans, led by their rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, managed to defeat their AFC South division rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.
With that victory, the Texans clinched a playoff spot and bettered their shot at winning their division. Following their victory, Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Darius Slay lauded Stroud’s talents.
Immediately after the Texans’ victory, the Eagles’ former All-Pro defensive back Darius Slay took to social media to applaud Stroud’s elite-level talents that helped the Texans earn a playoff spot for the first time in four years.
Cj stroud is elite… not to many QB’s better than him in this league!Slay wrote on X
In the game, Stroud completed a whopping 76.9% of his pass attempts for 264 yards and two passing touchdowns.
He helped the Texans outscore the Colts on Saturday and register a much-needed victory. With that victory, the Houston-based football team reached the postseason and now has a chance to win the AFC South division title.
The Texans would win the division if the Jacksonville Jaguars lost their Week 18 game against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. But, even if the Jaguars managed to win the division title, the Texans would still be in the postseason as one of the wildcard teams.
One of the major reasons for their success this season is their rookie sensation, C.J. Stroud, who is currently the frontrunner to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award for this season.
C.J. Stroud is a big game player, claims HC DeMeco Ryans
22-year-old rookie C.J. Stroud will be one of the best quarterbacks in the league in 2023. Following his tremendous campaign with the Texans, head coach DeMeco Ryan praises Stroud as a big-time player, according to ESPN.
C.J. doesn’t surprise me. We talked about it earlier in the week with C.J. being special in these big-time moments when you need it most, to step up and make plays.DeMeco Ryans said via ESPN
Furthermore, the first-year head coach also crowned Stroud as one of the best passers in the league. He also praised Stroud’s consistency, which led to the quarterback becoming just the 5th player in the league’s history to register 4000-plus passing yards as a rookie.
He’s done it time after time throughout the entire year. It’s not surprising. That’s who he is. He’s one of the best passers in this league. And he shows it consistently, game in and game out.Ryans said
Under the combination of DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud, the Texans have surprised a lot of people by reaching the playoffs. Now, they would look to make a deep postseason run in the upcoming weeks.
