Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay had a tumultuous time regarding his future at the franchise not very long ago. The Eagles allowed him to seek a trade and also released him before backtracking on their decision and eventually tying him up with a two-year contract extension at the franchise.

With the contract renewal now in place, the uncertain times are behind Slay, and he can completely shift his focus onto building a career at the Eagles. Last year’s Super Bowl runner’s up to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles have been one of the more consistent teams throughout the NFL.

They had a blistering start to their regular season last time out and almost went the distance courtesy of individual brilliance from quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was in the reckoning for an NFL MVP award himself. Despite having a successful season on the whole, courtesy of their NFC Championship success, the Eagles lacked in one particular department throughout the season. Despite having big names in the form of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in their ranks.

Their offensive stocks are not the greatest. A franchise can boast off in the NFL, and that showed in the way their defeats during the latter stages of the regular season. Following the departure of Zach Pascal to the Cardinals, the Eagles’ stocks in the wide receiving room is a lot thinner than expected.

Eagles’ cornerback has obviously taken note of his franchise’s lack of wide receivers and poked an indirect comment toward the franchise. Slay took to his Twitter account to respond to a post by PFF asking fans who the best WR2 was in the league. Slay wrote, “We don’t have a wr2.”

The comment can also be understood as a backhand compliment for the Eagles’ official WR2, DeVonta Smith. Truthfully, the wide receiving group at the franchise looks a lot thinner than they would ideally want, as the franchise looks to go one step further this year in the NFL 2022/23 season.

With six draft picks available with the Eagles, they might very well draft a wide receiver and also make a few signings in that department ahead of the regular season in August.
