“It was a World War”: Davante Adams admits he was immensely nervous & almost gave up on his dream during the 2014 draft

Davante Adams is undoubtedly one of the best wide receivers going around at this point in time. Earlier this year, when he announced that he will not play under the franchise tag, something had to give as Green Bay had already dedicated a lot of funds towards retaining Rodgers.

As expected, the Packers had to trade Davante to the Las Vegas Raiders who offered a blockbuster contract to the star WR. In fact, Davante signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract which eventually made him the new highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

However, there was a time when Davante was extremely nervous and even a little unsure about making his way into the NFL. Back in the 2014 draft, Davante had to wait a little while before he was eventually roped in by the Green Bay Packers. Sharing his experience during the drafting process, Davante had a few things to say during a recent interview with Raiders analyst Eric Allen.

It was a World War man,” Davante said about the 2014 draft. “I came out as a registered sophomore so I didn’t really think about the draft my whole last year. I was just thinking about having fun with my teammates getting in every week and staying in the present, in the moment and it attributed to my success, I got laser focussed, locked in on what I had to do,” he stated.

I was happy that I was able to focus and not get too far ahead of myself as I did feel a little bit more pressure, especially being a young kid coming out,” he claimed, adding that although he was projected to go in the first or second round, a lot of teams got in touch with him and expressed interest in roping him in during the first round only.

The ESPN camera crew was there in my apartment and the whole first round just went by. The first pick goes by as soon as you hear who got drafted you think you are tripping, that’s not supposed to be me,” he said, adding that a lot of receivers were drafted early on but his name was yet to come on board.

I was getting nervous, then we get to the end, I thought I was going to the Panthers as they were the ones who talked to me the most but they took Kevin Benjamin and I took my earpiece and everything out and started asking people to leave,” he said and went on to add that the following day, he invited a lot fewer people and everyone was wearing black as if it was a funeral.

At last, he was roped in by the Green Bay Packers and the rest, as they say, is history.
