“A quarterback doesn’t make me,” Raiders WR Davante Adams takes a subtle dig at Aaron Rodgers by claiming he didn’t need him
Davante Adams believes he has proven to all his doubters that he is one of the top receivers in the NFL with or without Aaron Rodgers as his QB.

Davante Adams thought he was putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding his quarterback situation when he made the decision to leave the Green Bay Packers for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, he ended up thrusting himself into a more complicated situation, as after just one season as a Raider, he no longer has Derek Carr as his QB. Carr was one of the biggest reasons that Adams decided to make the move to Vegas, as the duo had played together in college as well and had developed great on-field chemistry with one another.
While the Las Vegas Raiders had a tumultuous season in 2022, that did not stop Davante Adams from continuing to do his thing and put up monster numbers for his team. In just 17 games, Tae had 100 receptions for a total of 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns. Even with Jarrett Stidham as his QB, Adams did not have any problems and continued to produce.
Davante believes that this season alone was a testament to the fact that he does not need a Hall of Famer QB in order to be himself. In an interview with The Ringer, Davante spoke on the 2022 NFL season as a Raider and how he has put a decisive ‘end to the narrative that Aaron Rodgers was the reason for his success as a top wideout.

Davante Adams believes he has killed the narrative that Aaron Rodgers made him

Here’s what Davante Adams had to say, “People can’t say that. That’ll never be the narrative ever again (this season) proved that I am me…A quarterback doesn’t make me…I make me. And I can do it consistently at this level…That’s why (last) season meant a lot. Even if I went and played like dog shi* next year, they can’t say it. Because now I’ve already proved it throughout the course of a season, played every game, and put together a résumé that says I do not need…”
Any guesses as to who the wideout is attempting to state he does not need or never needed in order to prove that he is one of the greatest wideouts in the NFL? It is none other than his former QB from the Green Bay Packers. “You can erase all the numbers. You can just write in: He didn’t need Aaron Rodgers,” Davante concluded. Even though the Las Vegas Raiders did not make it to the postseason in 2022, Davante does not view the season to be a failure as he did accomplish his personal mission, he proved to everyone that a quarterback does not make him but he is the only individual responsible for his success in the NFL.
Davante has about had it with all these storylines and critics who dismiss his accomplishments or attempt to downplay them by stating that he had Aaron Rodgers, a certified future Hall of Famer, as his floor general. Adams played well this year, and knowing his skillset and capabilities, there is no longer any reason to doubt that he will continue to thrive under his newest quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.
