Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles currently have the best record in the entire league with 10 wins and 2 losses. They have a few holes in their roster, but they are certainly one of the top contenders to win the Super Bowl. However, the former NFL quarterback David Carr believes the Eagles should make a change at the quarterback position and start Marcus Mariota ahead of their Pro Bowl QB.
During a recent episode of the NFL Network show NFL Total Access, Carr shared the hot take about how now is the perfect time for the Eagles to give Hurts a breather by letting him sit for a couple of games.
Clearly, Jalen is uncomfortable reading through a defense in a drop-back pass scenario, some would say he’s not even good at it. You have to have a serious conversation if you’re Philly and you have to really say ‘Is it better for us to play Marcus Mariota right now and let Jalen get fully healthy?Carr on NFL Total Access.
David Carr’s hot take came after Jalen Hurts narrowly avoided a major injury scare during the Eagles’ week 13 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. Hurts was taken for a brief period and had to be checked for concussion before getting back on the field.
So Carr believes, Hurts is currently not fully healthy, and sitting him would be the best option for the Philadelphia-based football team. Furthermore, the NFL analyst believes the Eagles would get more out of Marcus Mariota than the injured Hurts. Put Marcus in there, win a couple of games, maybe you have the No. 1 seed still, you might have it. I’d say [Mariota] is better at playing quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles right now. Right now, he’d be more productive.
Social media reacts to David Carr’s take on Jalen Hurts
NFL fans on social media, especially the Eagles were flabbergasted by David Carr’s suggestion to bench their Pro Bowl QB Jalen Hurts in favor of journeyman Marcus Mariota.
Fans started to bash the former NFL quarterback over his take. Check out some of the reactions attached below.
Nonetheless, it is highly unlikely the Eagles would think about benching Jalen Hurts unless he suffers an injury. They are in a very close race with the Dallas Cowboys and the 49ers to acquire the NFC No.1 seed and they wouldn’t want to lose another game. Now, they will be simply focused on defeating the Cowboys, who they are scheduled to face in their week 14 matchup this Sunday.
