The Arizona Cardinals had one of the worst seasons in 2022. The team went 4-13 and went through a lot of changes in the offseason. The Cards hired Johnathan Gannon as their new head coach and Monti Ossenfort as their new general manager.

Amid all this organizational revamp, Arizona’s star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins became the subject of speculation as rumors surrounding his departure from the team gained heat. The rumors suggested that Hopkins was looking for a team that would pay him more money than his current compensation.

However, DeAndre Hopkins squashed these rumors on Twitter. He wrote, “Hopkins doesn’t want a raise” and ended it with Nuk. There is some bad blood between Hopkins and the Cardinals from the looks of it, but it isn’t because of money. That much is clear now.

Hopkins signed a two-year, $54.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals that will pay him $19.45 million in 2023. The three-time All-Pro receiver has been reportedly on the trade block since the start of the offseason, but it still isn’t clear what the status of Hopkins is with the team.

DeAndre Hopkins signed with the Cardinals in 2020 when the Texans traded him in exchange for a second-round and fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and running back David Johnson which was quite a steal. The 30-year-old completed his third season in Arizona last year and had an average season considering he was suspended for six games for violating the league’s drug policy. He ended the 2022 season with 717 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Last week Hopkins was not present at the Cardinals’ offseason strength and conditioning program. Head coach Gannon was asked about Hopkins’ absence and he said, “We’ll see. I’ve been in communication with D-Hop. I want to do what’s best for him and us, at the same time. When he’s ready to come, he’ll come and improve his game, too.”

Whether or not DeAndre Hopkins is leaving the Cardinals remains to be seen. With D-Hop’s latest tweet mentioning the issue not being with money, one can only imagine what’s wrong in Arizona’s camp.
