The Arizona Cardinals are looking to move on from the star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The franchise allegedly shopped him in the off-season, but since the asking price was too high, they weren’t able to successfully finish a trade. But now some reports suggest that if the Cardinals can’t trade Hopkins soon, they would likely release him in the off-season.

DeAndre Hopkins’ future is very uncertain in Arizona. He could end up playing anywhere in the league in the 2023 season. The Cardinals allegedly want a similar package the Carolina Panthers got for trading their star running back Christian McCaffrey, but no team in the league is willing to give that to Hopkins. The Panthers received a 2023 second-round, third-round, and a fourth-round draft pick and also a 2024 fifth-round pick from the San Francisco 49ers.

Now, the Cardinals are committed to getting rid of Hopkins to save some cap space. So, they would eventually release him if they can’t get a trade done. Amidst this situation, the 5-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has dropped hints on where he would like to play in the 2023 season. CBS Sports reporter Bryant McFadden was able to get answers from Hopkins without the receiver saying a single word.

Hopkins nodded yes when the reporter uttered the names of the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs as a likely spot for the wide receiver. Furthermore, Hopkins nodded “no” when the reporter suggested the New England Patriots and the New York Jets (a team that is guaranteed to rope in Aaron Rodgers in this off-season) as the likely landing spot for the 3-time first-team All-Pro wideout.

The Cardinals are reportedly trying to move on from their All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to save some cap space. The 31-year-old is scheduled to make $19.5 million in base salary in the 2023 season.

“Teams I’ve talked to believe the Cardinals haven’t really been willing to pay the salary,” Jeremy Fowler said during his recent appearance on SportsCenter.“He has $19.5 million on the books. That’s a little rich for some of the receiver-needy teams out there.”

DeAndre Hopkins missed 7 games in the 2022 season for violating the NFL drug-enhancing policy. Despite that, he still managed to register 717 receiving yards. Whichever team ends up getting Hopkins will have a great wide receiver that helps them to achieve success in the 2023 season.
