The San Francisco 49ers, led by their second-year quarterback Brock Purdy, are currently preparing for their NFC championship game against the Detroit Lions. Ahead of the decisive game, the Niners wide receiver Deebo Samuel addresses beef with the Lions’ safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

During Friday’s pre-game press conference, the Niners’ star wide receiver Deebo Samuel was asked about how he’s feeling about having to face a guy like C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Deebo Samuel said

Samuel and C.J. Gardner-Johnson have been involved in back-and-forth ever since the 49ers suffered a defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles in last year’s NFC championship game. Gardner-Johnson was part of the Eagles team that defeated the Niners. Following the loss, Samuel claimed that they only lost in the game since QB Brock Purdy suffered an injury very early in their matchup.

Later, during week 6 of the 2023 regular season, the Cleveland Browns and the 49ers got into a pre-game scuffle. Gardner-Johnson used a clip from the scuffle and accused Samuel of hiding behind the Niners’ offensive lineman Trent Williams. Samuel responded by posting a clip of the defensive back getting punched during a game when he was with the New Orleans Saints back in 2020.

And then, the Lions DB escalated the beef during one of his Instagram lives by calling out Samuel and saying that he can’t hide behind Trent Williams every time. The next day, Deebo Samuel appeared on the Up & Adams show and accused Gardner-Johnson of being jealous of his money. And now finally, these two players will go head to head on the field after a lot of back-and-forth.

Dan Campbell has one piece of advice for C.J. Gardner-Johnson amid beef with Deebo Samuel

Ahead of the Lions-49ers game, Detroit head coach Dan Campbell just has one piece of advice for C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who has to control his emotions since he will be taking on the Niners receiver Deebo Samuel. Both Gardner-Johnson and Samuel have been involved in trash-talk for many months.

Dan Campbell told reporters

Campbell just wants his defensive back to not cause any penalty that could kill his team’s momentum in the big game. The Lions head coach believes his defensive back will be able to do it.

Nonetheless, the much-anticipated matchup between two top teams in the NFC with a Super Bowl trip on the line has created a lot of buzz around the league.
