The San Francisco 49ers made their second straight NFC Championship game, thanks in large part to their young quarterback, Brock Purdy. He led the Niners to another win on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Although Purdy and the Niners had a terrific season, the quarterback was always under scrutiny for various reasons.

He had a lot of doubters who questioned him when the team lost and disregarded his performance when the Niners won. Purdy did not have a great performance against the Packers despite the win and that became fodder for a lot of the talking heads in the media. Former NFL player and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark ripped Purdy apart for his poor performance in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

He claimed that the former last pick of the draft does not make his teammates better. That did not go down well with a few Niners players, especially WR Deebo Samuel who clapped back at Purdy’s haters by posting a message on his Instagram story. Samuel wrote:

Never seen so much hate for a QB that lead the league in almost every category y’all folks be buggin frfr. That tape don’t tell lies.

Multiple Niners’ receivers had great seasons with Purdy as their QB. Brandon Aiyuk had two 1,000 yard receiving seasons, both came with Purdy as the team’s QB. Even All-Pro TE George Kittle had his first 1,000-yard receiving season this year since 2019.

Kyle Shanahan talks about Brock Purdy’s struggles against the Packers on Saturday

The San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy struggled last Saturday against the Green Bay Packers. The game was played in torrential rain and that made it difficult for both the QBs to grip the ball. However, it seemed like it affected Purdy more than Jordan Love, but the 49ers came away with a win on Saturday.

San Francisco’s HC Kyle Shanahan addressed Purdy’s struggled after the game. Shanahan said about Purdy’s struggles to handle the ball:

I think it did a little bit. There's definitely a few that got Brock, a few that he probably just missed trying to throw around a guy so it doesn't get tipped, and a couple that he just can't explain.
Kyle Shanahan said

He further continued:

That just [happens]. So he did a lot of good things, too. By no means was he perfect, but it was really cool, when we needed him to be at his best, he was. And so it gave us the best chance to win at the end.
Kyle Shanahan continued

Purdy finished the game with 252 yards and a touchdown. He and the Niners will now play the Detroit Lions at home in the NFC Championship game next Sunday.
