Deebo Samuel was sound asleep at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa in the early hours of Thursday morning until a sudden fire alarm at 6 a.m. forced him to cut his beauty sleep. Naturally, Samuel was pissed at being woken up earlier than he or any of the San Francisco 49ers players were expecting.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams said,

I definitely lost about an hour of sleep. Yeah, I got up, got dressed, walked out the door, and then they told me it was a drill.

The players had a team meeting at 8 a.m., so they could easily have slept for at least an hour, as Williams mentioned. Fortunately, no one had to leave their room as engineering was able to deduce it was a false alarm, as per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

That very day, Deebo Samuel was asked about his reaction to the false fire alarm. He sounded completely off. It may be because he did not get enough sleep. Samuel said,

Fire alarm going off in the morning. I mean, like, for what? I didn't understand that. That sh** kinda pis* me off.

Samuel wasn’t the only 49er unhappy with the fire alarm

From then on, whenever a 49ers player gave an interview, the reporters asked about their reaction and thoughts on the false fire alarm at their hotel. In the end, George Kittle revealed that Christian McCaffrey and Nick Bosa were among the few who weren’t pleased with the incident.

It had to be them. You don't want to wake the sleeping bear. But Christian was not happy either.
Kittle

Kittle was correct because, when McCaffrey was asked about the incident, he said,

Of course this would happen.’ It’s part of it. Is it random? No, I think there’s no way it’s random. It’s just more wood thrown onto the fire.

Similar to Deebo Samuel, 49ers pass rusher Bosa did not take the situation too kindly. Bosa claimed that someone had purposefully created the scene. He mentioned another experience that happened earlier in the season when he visited Philadelphia.

I’m sure somebody did it. It kind of reminded me of Philly when they had this construction going on outside. It was early in the morning; they’re like demolishing a bridge right outside. We haven’t had the best luck.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed not hearing the alarm because he and the 49ers coaching staff were in the basement having a meeting. Incidents like these are common before a high-voltage game like the Super Bowl. The 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs at Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium this Sunday.
