The Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach Deion Sanders has turned the program into winning ways with his coaching tactics. As a former player himself, his coaching tactics differ from the conventional way. And now, during his recent appearance on ‘The Colorado Football Coaches Show’, Sanders reminded everybody just how different his coaching style is.

We’ve had a great week of practice. We had a couple of fights, which I like. It’s a great thing. I always want to know who won because I keep records. I don’t break them up. Some coaches break them up. I don’t.

Fights in practice sessions are not new. Mostly, the offense and defense get riled up, leading to a fight between them. Most coaches would look to break up the fight and would be against fighting between teammates, especially at a college level.

However, Deion Sanders is not against teammates fighting between them in practice sessions. The Pro Football Hall of Famer believes it might help focus better on their play.

Some guys fight hoping for the break up. No, we’re going to let you go. I love it. They’ve been getting after it. It’s almost like a rededication. It’s almost like a refocus. I love where we are. We’ve had great practices this week, offense, defense, as well as special teams.

After a surprising 3-0 start to the season, Sanders and the Buffaloes haven’t won a lot of games. They are currently holding a 4-5 record and their future isn’t looking great either, since they have two AP top 25 opponents remaining in their schedule.

Deion Sanders wants his players to fight for their teammates

Back in August, during the early stages of Deion Sanders’ days at Colorado, his players got into a scuffle in a practice session. When assistant coaches jumped into the scuffle to clear things up, Sanders stood away from the action before delivering a message in his own style.

After everyone settled down, Sanders first talked to a couple of players, asking them why they walked away from the scuffle, when their teammates were still fighting.

If one fights, we all fight. You understand that? I don’t want to see you all walking off when somebody’s fighting. Never again.

Well, his coaching tactics might be unconventional, but there’s progress in Colorado. The Buffaloes just won 1 game the entire 2022 season, but under Deion, they have already won 4 games in the ongoing season. No matter how their season ends, the Colorado Buffaloes have shown progress under Sanders and are expected to have a better campaign in the 2024 college football season.
