A football program is only as good as its head coach. Colorado University witnessed a massive shift in the fate of its football program last season after Deion Sanders took up the head coaching role.

Coach Prime initiated a massive culture change in the building. Interestingly enough, while most football coaches urge the athletes to prioritize the game first, this is not the case when you suit up for the Buffaloes.

Sanders urges his athletes to become better human beings first; he focuses more on character development and turning young athletes into grown, responsible men who are capable of succeeding in today’s society.

The latest instance of Deion Sanders‘ unique coaching style is on full display after the Colorado Buffaloes failed to maintain their locker room in a neat and tidy condition. The players had left their jerseys and used towels around the room.

The player’s slippers, socks, and shoes were strewn across the lockers of a few players in the room. The sorry state of affairs was brought to the notice of Coach Prime.

Despite the fact that most of the locker room was clean, Deion Sanders’ philosophy seems rather interesting.

We know whose lockers those were...but, we're a team...so all of us are going to pay for that.
Deion Sanders said

He held the entire team accountable for the mistakes of a few players. He did this to teach them a valuable lesson: that actions have consequences, and since the entire team will face punishment, the players will not repeat this mistake in the future.

Deion Sanders recently addressed his players after he received a complaint about their attitude toward classes

In order to serve their penance, Coach Prime sternly told the team they would have to stay back after practice and pay for their mistake. He made it clear that if any of the players quit or do not show up, citing excuses such as an illness, they will be off the team.

That don't make sense, that's not who we are. We're better than that...We're going to be good on the field, off the field, and in the community. This is how we lead...we're not raising boys, we're raising men.
Deion Sanders concluded

This was not the first time this week that the Colorado Buffaloes have had to hear it from their head coach. Earlier this week, one of the professors of the students on the football team reached out to Coach Prime with a list of complaints he had about the players.

The professor had an issue with the fact that the players were physically present but mentally absent in the classes and showcased disrespectful behavior.

Deion Sanders has been outspoken about his mission to create grown men who are responsible and accountable to themselves. He has been able to succeed in initiating a culture change because he makes his players disciplined and keeps them grounded at all times.

He is the gold standard for head coaches, as he knows most of the players on the roster will not make it to the NFL. If he cannot inculcate a sense of responsibility within them, they could end up being a burden to society or being pushed into illegal activities.

His approach and efforts are commendable, and it will not be shocking to see the Buffaloes get some of the top-ranked athletes in the coming years, as both parents and the players themselves would want to be coached by Primetime.
