Sanders claimed that he can teach young kids and they will listen, but he can't do the same with professional players.

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are the biggest stories in college football right now. So much so that after only two wins, a lot of people are speculating that he might end up taking a shot at an NFL coaching job shortly.

The alarm bells were already ringing at every franchise’s office after the Buffs defeated TCU, last year’s National Championship finalists, on opening day. Sanders single-handedly put a bottom-feeding team on the map. It won’t be surprising if one or two NFL teams come knocking on his door. But Coach Prime has no intention of leaving college football.

“I would never do that,” he told Rich Eisen on a recent segment of the Rich Eisen Show. “I love college [because] young men are still impressionable.”

The retired defensive back, who accumulated a substantial amount of cash during his career, claims that young people will listen to him because money isn’t blinding them. He revealed that professional players are less likely to behave the way he wants them to because they are earning a lot.

“They’re not so financially wealthy that they can’t hear you,” Sanders continued. “At the next level, some of these guys make so much money that they can’t hear or see the things that they need to see. I would have a hard time motivating a man who makes upwards of 20, 30, and sometimes 40 million dollars. I got a problem with that.”

The Super Bowl winner joked that he can never be lenient with NFL players. Sanders joked that he will immediately cut a player from the team if he makes mistakes.“I would start with 53 and come out of the locker room at halftime with about 38,” he argued.

Deion Sanders once had the desire to coach an NFL team

Before becoming a college football heartthrob, Deion Sanders tried his luck in the NFL. Back in 2003, the 56-year-old tried his best to get the Atlanta Falcons coaching job. The Falcons were 1-6 in the league and needed a turnaround. Sanders had hoped owner Arthur Blank would reply to his inquiry.

“I guess my message to Mr. Blank would be two words: ‘Call me,'” he told ESPN.com in 2003. “I think it would work. It isn’t a joke. It’s the challenge I want.”

At this point, he had retired from playing football and was working with CBS as an analyst. He was adamant that if the Falcons hired him, he would be able to change their fortunes.

“I can make them a better team because I know the things that really need to be done,” he said. “I still live football. It’s still a big part of me.”

Unfortunately, Blank never returned his calls. And now Deion Sanders is tearing up the college football scene with Colorado.
