Christian McCaffrey had a brilliant 2023-24 regular season. The running back did everything that he could do to help his team achieve success. After a brilliant regular season, he also performed well in the postseason. In two clutch victories the Niners had, he played the major role. His two touchdowns ensured the victory for the 49ers in the Conference game against the Detroit Lions.

Following his great performance in the regular season and the postseason, the NFL awarded him the Offensive Player of the Year Award. He was also one of the MVP frontrunners, but lost the title to Lamar Jackson.

However, the RB is not in the mood to celebrate his achievements. Instead, one mistake keeps on hitting his mind since the Super Bowl. He made a fumble in the very first quarter of the game. It had a crucial impact on the game. As the Chiefs won the game in overtime, this mistake seemed a crucial one.

I think there are so many things to look back on. A game that you just want back. And obviously for me… it just keeps playing in my head that I just can’t do it.

McCaffrey failed to make 49ers win Super Bowl LVIII against the Chiefs

The running back, who was expected to have a heck of a time against the Chiefs in the Championship game, failed to make things happen. He covered 80 yards for eight receptions, however, managed to make a receiving touchdown.

McCaffrey was the primary target for QB Brock Purdy throughout the season and he kept on finishing games with his touchdown runs. The RB bagged four TDs in two postseason games as well. But the Super Bowl was different.

The Chiefs’ defense had a huge role in keeping McCaffrey silent. They stopped him from getting a touchdown. Purdy, though had a clean game, also failed to create many difficulties at the Niners’ offense. His lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter.

Beyond overall stats, what would haunt them was the loss that the team had. The Niners were an inch closer to winning the game. However, the team’s elite defense failed in the dying seconds of the game. Now, the team has to start from scratch for the new season.
