“Crown their a**”: When legendary coach Dennis Green unleashed one of the most famous RANTS in the history of NFL

Dennis Earl Green was indeed a name to reckon with in the world of the NFL. As a player, he featured for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League but that stint didn’t last very long. However, Dennis went on to make a name for himself as a coach in the NFL.
During his illustrious career in the NFL, Green coached the Vikings for a decade. In ten seasons, he was able to guide the team to as many as 8 playoff appearances. In addition to this, Green also coached the Arizona Cardinals from 2004 to 2006.
When Dennis Green’s angry outburst left everyone stunned
A hard task master, Green was known for his fierce tactics and for not holding back when it came to letting his players know how they performed. He is often remembered for one of the most famous rants by a coach in the history of the NFL.
Let us go back to 2006. Green’s Cardinals were desperate for a win and they were set to take on the Chicago Bears. As far as the Bears are concerned, they were having a fantastic season with 5 wins on the trot. However, the Cardinals came out all guns blazing and took a 23-10 lead after three quarters.
It looked like a comfortable win for the Cardinals, however, in the final quarter, things went haywire for Arizona and they ended up losing the game by a solitary point. After the game, Green didn’t hold back from letting the world know how immensely disappointed he was with his players.
“The Bears were what we thought they were,” Green said loudly during the post game press conference. “What we thought they were. We played them in preseason. Who the hell takes the third game in the preseason like this? We played them the third game, everybody played three quarters. The Bears are who we thought they were. That’s why we took the damn field.”
“If you want to crown them, then crown their a** but they are who we thought they were and we let them off the hook,” Green said before eventually storming off the stage. During the outburst, Green even smacked a mike which was put in front of him.
One has to agree that Green was incredibly passionate about his game and clearly, he was not pleased after the defeat. While he ended up getting mostly negative reactions, many also look back at the incident and say that although the way in which the man said what he said was wrong, his love and passion for the game cannot be doubted.
