This NFL offseason, two running backs stole the limelight. One was Saquon Barkley, who was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles and the second one was Derrick Henry who joined the Baltimore Ravens. Both of them had great NFL careers with their previous teams. Now both are looking for new challenges.
Derrick Henry has received a $16 million deal with $9 million guaranteed. The RB was in a rich vein of form last year totaling 1,167 yards rushing. He was second in terms of leading the rushing yards right after Christian McCaffrey. In addition, he also bagged the second-most receptions (28) last season. Following these two, a lot of analysts believe that he can be a great fit for the Baltimore Ravens squad.
However, not everyone thinks in the same line. Despite having all those numbers, a few people have raised their fingers. They claimed that the RB is in his 30s, and won’t be as successful as he is expected to be.
Nevertheless, Henry does not have time for all this. After joining the Ravens, he shared a clear message to all the haters who have questioned him for his age. He hinted that the best version of him is yet to come and his haters have to keep an eye on that.
Henry said on Thursday, according to a report by ESPN:
Tell them to keep watching. People always going to have something to say -- always going to have opinions. I'm just ready to work, ready to get things started and do my best to help this organization.Derrick Henry said
Derrick Henry has earned great respect from the Ravens
It is unsure whether Henry will be successful in the Ravens colors but there is hardly a doubt that he has earned respect from the Ravens team. Addressing his greatness as a player, the Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta said that he is a perfect blend of speed and power. It is expected to be reflected on the gridiron in the coming season.
Here is what he had to say, addressing the reporters:
He's kind of a unicorn, to be honest. It's a combination of speed, power, durability. Those kind of guys are rare. We've had some here in Baltimore. They're just different from everybody else, and I think Derrick's a good example of that. When you evaluate the tape, you watch the player, you see the history of the player, you talk to people who have been around the player, it made all the sense in the world for us to target Derrick.Eric DeCosta said
Fans have very high hopes for Derrick Henry. It is to be seen whether he lives up to the mark in the coming season. The Ravens fans will be hoping for their team to go all the way to the Super Bowl.
