Deshaun Watson’s 30 accusers reach a settlement with the Houston Texans

Deshaun Watson’s 30 accusers reach a settlement with the Houston Texans

The latest development around Deshaun Watson ends yet another tumultuous chapter of the saga surrounding him. The attorney representing all the 30 accusers claiming sexual misconduct reported that they have arrived at settlements with the Houston Texans. The Texans were accused of enabling Watson’s behavior as they continued to provide him with massage therapists and hotel venues.

Once this was revealed in the groundbreaking report in the New York Times, the team was hit with lawsuits from all of the quarterback’s accusers. What might be surprising here is that though Watson is facing only 24 civil lawsuits seeking legal action against him, the Texans have settled with 30 women, which is 6 more women. It seems unlikely that these 6 women will file civil suits against the quarterback.

The team released an official statement, “We are aware of the lawsuit filed against us today. Since March 2021, we have fully supported and complied with law enforcement and various investigations. We will continue to take the necessary steps to address the allegations against our organization.

Tony Buzbee stated that all the women who have made or intended to make claims against the Texans organization have settled and that an existing lawsuit will be dismissed ‘with prejudice.’ The amount paid to the individuals will remain confidential.

Deshaun Watson has denied any wrongdoing and has maintained that he is innocent. Two grand juries in Texas have declined to indict the quarterback on criminal complaints by 10 women. The quarterback has been trying his best to settle with all of his accusers as well, however, only 20 out of 24 accusers are willing to settle. The remaining 4 accusers led by Ashley Solis want to take the quarterback to court and not let him off the hook easily. Tony Buzbee made a statement about these cases as well and stated, “I admire Ashley Solis and the other women who were courageous enough to make their voices heard. I hope their bravery serves as an example to others who have been subjected to similar conduct. Every story has a hero- in this story, that hero is Ashley Solis and the other women who, despite the ridicule, criticism, and vitriol directed at them, endured.”
