The Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is currently a top quarterback and one of the highest-paid NFL players in the league. However, the talented signal-caller has been getting a lot of disrespect in the 2023 off-season because of the off-field issues he faced in the last couple of years. Watson, however, is not phased by the snubs.

“I’m very motivated,” Watson said in a conversation with Cleveland.com. “I’m very excited to be able to have the opportunities to go out there and prove what I have before and even better. And that’s the goal, is to be better than when people last saw me. Yeah, I mean honestly people are entitled to their own opinions, but at the same time you got to respect their opinions.”

Watson’s comment comes after the recently released QB rankings. Popular sports sites such as NFL.com and Pro Football Network ranked Watson 27th and 26th respectively in their QB rankings. Many people believe the Browns are hanging onto Watson only because of his $230 million fully guaranteed contract.

Watson sat out the entire 2021 season while demanding a trade out of the Houston Texans amid sexual assault allegations. In 2022, he was traded to the Browns, where he signed a massive 5-year $230 million fully guaranteed contract.

Despite not getting criminally charged over the sexual assault allegations, the NFL still handed an 11-game suspension for Watson in 2022 due to the overwhelming number of allegations. He served the 11-game suspension at the start of the 2022 season. He played the last six games of the regular season but didn’t look good.

The Clemson product, Deshaun Watson, was selected by the Houston Texans in the first round (12th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. The highly touted signal-caller was the third quarterback drafted that year after Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes.

During the entire draft process, Trubisky was rated higher than Watson by the majority of sports analysts and media. Watson responded to the analysts by claiming that he has accomplished everything.

“I respect Mitch and what he’s done and all the hype he’s getting, but at the same time, my result speaks for itself. I feel like I’ve accomplished everything that I could. I guess if that’s who they’re gonna roll with, so be it,” said Watson, just ahead of the draft on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”

Watson responded by having three straight Pro Bowl seasons in Houston. He was on the path to greatness before the off-field fiascos caught up to him. He is now on a redemption arc with the Browns.
