“I continue to stand on my innocence,” Deshaun Watson defends himself against sexual harassment allegations despite settling with the NFL
Deshaun Watson has finally learnt the ultimatum regarding the tenure of suspension he would face in the NFL for the 24 sexual harassment cases filed against him during his time with the Houston Texans. The NFL and NFLPA mutually agreed to hand out an 11-game suspension along with a $5 million fine towards charity.
Alongside the suspension and the fine, Deshaun Watson has agreed to undergo mandatory counselling during his hiatus from the game. This brings an end to a massive story in the NFL, which first emerged in 2021. However, despite agreeing to settle with the NFL, the 26-year-old quarterback reiterated his stance on the sexual allegations made against him by 24 different women.

Deshaun Watson clarified that just because he settled, doesn’t mean he pleads guilty
Speaking almost immediately after the settlement became official, the Browns’ newly acquired quarterback said that he will continue to maintain his innocence against the harassment claims. He also said that he decided to settle with the NFL, only because he had triggered certain people.
“I have always stood on my innocence and am going to continue to stand on that, but at the same time I have to continue to push forward on my life and my career,” Watson said Thursday in a news conference.
“And for us to be able to move forward, I have to be able to take steps and put pride to the side. I’m going to continue to stand on my innocence and keep pushing forward. I’ve always stood on not disrespecting or not sexually assaulting anyone.”
Deshaun Watson’s statement claiming himself to be innocent has irked numerous NFL fans, who were already displeased with the reduced nature of the sentence for the quarterback.
