The NFL is currently raging on the massive contract extension signed by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Jalen Hurts. The 24-year-old signed a whopping $255 million contract extension with the Eagles that is all set to run until 2028 in a deal which makes him the highest-paid quarterback in the history of the NFL.
The record-breaking contract will see Jalen Hurts pocket a whopping $179.3 million in guaranteed pay, while the contract also includes a no-trade clause, also a first in the franchise’s history. The incredible numbers involved in the deal simply speak volumes about the current situation of the quarterback market in the whole of the NFL.
Hurts was drafted by the Eagles in 2020 and has seen an inspirational rise in his stocks during the three seasons that he’s been a part of the NFL. Last season, he led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance on the back of exceptional personal performances throughout the season.
Deshaun Watson congratulated his friend Jalen Hurts on the bumper contract renewal
Following the bumper contract extension, Jalen Hurts has received plenty of support from fellow players. One of the biggest votes of approval, Hurts received was from his long-time friend turned opponent, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
“He’s definitely a friend of mine. We train together & hang out together. I texted him letting know dinner’s on him when we’re in Philly, he said he’s got it. I got it last year, he’s got it this yr. He deserves every penny,” Watson said of Hurts’ contract renewal.
According to various reports, the duo have trained together on multiple occasions and are great mates off the pitch. It isn’t all that surprising given the fact the Hurts hail from Houston and Watson had a long spell with the Houston Texans before moving on to Cleveland Browns last season. In fact, it was Watson himself who paved the way for quarterbacks to receive huge paychecks in guaranteed money, after his $230 million contract with the Browns.
Jalen Hurts was second behind Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, in the race for the NFL MVP award last season and also won the NFC Championship. Undoubtedly the contract extension could not have come at a better timing for Hurts’ perspective and the Eagles are ready to bet on him as their starting quarterback for years to come.
