The refereeing in NFL games has always been a controversial subject. This season as well, fans have witnessed some bad calls here and there, however, the play on DeVante Parker that was ruled as not a helmet-to-helmet hit was the most ridiculous call of this season to date. In the New England Patriots matchup against the Miami Dolphins, defensive back DeShon Elliott ran into DeVante Parker’s helmet which resulted in a hard hit.
DeVante Parker was not aware of Elliott charging toward him until he got hit. The wideout dropped the ball and remained on the field for a while after taking that hit. The fact that NFL referees did not rule it as violent contact baffled fans. Following the hit, Parker was taken out of the game and he did not return for the remainder of the night.
It remains to be seen if he is placed in concussion protocol.
#Dolphins DB DeShon Elliott just CRUSHED #Patriots WR DeVante Parker right in the face, and somehow no flag was thrown.

There is BAD and then there is this. Parker has already been ruled out of the game with a head injury.

Following the game in which the Patriots lost to the Dolphins, HC Bill Belichick had to say this regarding the hit on Parker:
You should talk to the officials about that.
Classic Bill response. His teammate Matthew Slater had Parker’s back and is certain that Elliott will be disciplined by the league for the hit.

This call enraged fans who could not believe that the referees did not throw a flag on that play. It also cast a question around the NFL’s attempts to make the sport much safer for athletes.

So helmet to helmet isn’t a penalty anymore?

Refs missing everything this year. Or they are just not calling them on purpose. Idk but it's bad

It's coincidental, sure, but it's also kind of wild that the NFL has failed to protect DeVante Parker for a second straight season. https://t.co/BEYlhUMRFr

It’s like Deja Vu all over again.
I hope DeVante Parker is ok. You never want to see that happen to anyone, never mind someone with his recent history of getting his bell rung

The missed call on DeVante Parker was scary as he lay on the field for a while after the play. The NFL has witnessed a rise in player injuries this season. This also reflects negatively on the league’s commitment to athlete safety. The NFL has been cautious around its health protocols ever since the Damar Hamlin situation last season.
