Under unfortunate circumstances, the former NFL wide receiver Devon Wylie has died at the young age of 35 years. The Wylie family has announced the news in a heartfelt statement on social media, though they haven’t yet disclosed the cause of death.
Wylie was best known for his time at the Kansas City Chiefs and then, the Tennessee Titans, from where he retired in 2016. He is counted among the notable football players, with his journey beginning at his high school, Granite Bay High School in California. After playing at Fresno State from 2007 to 2011, he was drafted by the Chiefs in the fourth round in 2012.
According to various news outlets, an unidentified member of the Wylie family made a statement on social media, writing:
We wanted to make this post so people who knew and loved Devon could learn of his passing because we don't have the capacity to reach out to everyone in this hard time.
The post continued:
There are no words to express the sadness that comes from losing a brother, dear friend and an amazing uncle. Devon had so much love and joy to give.
It concluded:
Always making people laugh and entertaining us with his football skills, guitar jams, silly jokes and voices, back-flip tricks, fun banter Star Wars obsession chat, Halo nights and not to mention his beautiful smile. We will miss him always.
In the NFL, Wylie played for multiple teams across the league. After being drafted by the Chiefs in 2012, he played six games for them. Then, he joined the Titans in 2013, where he only played two games, before transferring to the Canadian Football League in 2016.
Which were the teams that Devon Wylie played for in the NFL?
After logging 98 catches, 1,327 yards, and eight touchdowns at Fresno State, Wylie then aimed for the NFL. In the 2012 NFL draft, he was picked by the Chiefs in the fourth round. In his rookie season, he mostly played on the special team, but only for six games. He recorded 9 kick returns for 191 yards and five punt returns for 26 yards. From the offense side, he logged six catches for 53 receiving yards.
In the span of three years, from 2013 to 2015, the former wide receiver played with Titans, Arizona Cardinals Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, and finally San Francisco 49ers practice squad.
However, in 2016, Wylie signed a contract to join the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. There, he played only one season before getting released in mid-2017.
