“I Bluffed”: DK Metcalf reveals how a “bluff” allowed him to earn BIG

DK Metcalf signed a massive three-year, $72 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks with $58.2 million in guarantees. Metcalf will also be receiving the highest signing bonus ever received by a wide receiver $30 million. Metcalf is one of the best wide receivers in the game but what we didn’t know was that Metcalf is also a master of the bluff.

Metcalf who was selected by the Seahawks with the 64th pick in the 2nd round of 2019 NFL draft signed a rookie contract on being drafted, was on a 4year $4.6 million contract with 2022 being the last season of the deal. Some tense negotiations took place in the last few months which included a “possible” hold in.

“I was going to be here, as much as I bluffed John”: DK Metcalf

DK Metcalf

This is the era of hold ins so if Metcalf did so, it would not have been a surprise to anyone but according to Metcalf he was never going to go through with it. After signing the contract Metcalf admitted that he bluffed his team in negotiations. Metcalf hinted that he used the threat of a “hold-in” to general manager John Schneider to get a deal done.

“I was going to be here, as much as I bluffed to John,” Metcalf said Friday. “I wasn’t leaving, just to let you all know. I wanted to be here. I wanted to play here and I’m glad that we got something done.”

But looks like Seahawks GM John Schneider wasn’t too concerned “We knew he was a guy that was going to be here, we had to have here for a long time in order for us to provide for the (fans) a championship team.” All in all, things worked out well, both, for the team as well as DK.
