Geno Smith was widely counted out going into the last season. He was firmly used as a backup QB for many seasons and it was believed that he wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure of starting games after Russell Wilson left for the Broncos in a blockbuster trade.
Fortunately, Smith really came on to his own with the Seattle Seahawks and made the QB position his own after delivering spectacular performances for the Seattle based side.
The Seahawks QB had a passer rating of 100.9 with 4,282 yards while also scoring 30 touchdowns and and 11 interception throughout the last season. The management was impressed with Smith’s performance and even gave him a gracious contract extension for his services.
Another player impressed with his performance is WR DK Metcalf who was floored by his improvements and couldn’t believe it at the start. Recently, Metcalf featured on the Colin Cowherd show and there he spoke about Smith immaturity when he was a backup QB to Russell Wilson.
Metcalf took a slight dig at him, while also praising him a little. “I mean, he probably wouldn’t have any mind me saying, he would agree with you that he was immature in his past,” DK Metcalf stated on the Colin Cowherd show. “But I believe sitting behind Russ really like motivated him and really showed him how good he could really be in this league.”
After taking a slight dig at Geno Smith, Metcalf started to praise the QB for his determination and the way he won the locker room after being promoted to QB1 for the Seahawks.

Geno Smith has improved monumentally in one season
DK Metcalf was quick to point out the improvements that he has seen in Geno Smith ever since Wilson left for the Broncos. Russell leaving meant as motivation to Smith who made the most of his opportunity after his departure.
“He comes in and training camp and he’s locked in like body-wise mentally, he’s watching film and he’s just, I saw the transition from, okay, I’m a backup to okay this is my team on the starter like week eight.” DK Metcalf stated on the Colin Cowherd show.
It was expected that the Seahawks would draft another QB in the NFL draft but now it seems like the starting sport is reserved for Geno Smith at the moment. He has the respect of the locker room and has also achieved the confidence of the management after being the AP comeback player of the year 2022.
