Dolly Parton lit up Thanksgiving with stars, glitter, and lots of rock and roll in Arlington, Texas. On Thursday night, the 77-year-old took the stage inside the AT&T Stadium during the Salvation Army’s Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show as the Dallas Cowboys faced the Washington Commanders.
Parton donned the iconic Cowboys cheerleader’s uniform, featuring a white vest with a blue star chest-baring blue crop top and white shorts. While it appeared that she was bare-bellied as per the regular norms, that wasn’t the case, as hers was covered in bedazzled mesh. On top of her belly button was a big Cowboys star, and she topped it off with crystal-dotted tights.
The country music legend kicked off her performance with her beloved song, ‘Jolene.’ Then she slowly transitioned to ‘9 to 5’ and also performed the cover of Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions.’
Dolly Parton wasn’t the only one performing during the Thanksgiving NFL games
Since it was announced that Parton would be the one performing during the Thanksgiving halftime show, there has been buzz around the country. Even though Steve Aoki at the Seattle Seahawks vs. the San Francisco 49ers and Rapper’s Jack Harlow heavily blasted show at the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game, Parton was the most talked about.
Seth Dudowsky, the NFL’s head of music, told Billboard,
All three teams came to me at the outset to discuss options. We collectively brainstorm, and I provide feedback on artist opportunities.
The Dallas Cowboys won another Thanksgiving game
Similar to the Super Bowl, Thanksgiving fixtures are a special occasion for football fans to kick back, enjoy turkey dinner, and watch their favorite teams play. The Lions started the tradition back in 1934 when they played the Chicago Bears. Dallas joined the party much later, in 1966.
By now, it has become a spectacle. But between the two franchises, who have won more? That’s hard to judge, considering they are neck and neck in their win record. According to USA Today:
- Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Record: 32-22-1
- Cowboys Record in Last 5 Thanksgivings: 2–3
- Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Record: 37-44-2
- Lions Record in Last 5 Thanksgivings: 0-5
Now, judging by the recent string of results, the Dallas Cowboys are ahead of the Lions. But in the context of just this season, both sides are 8-3 and are looking ever so close to making it to the playoffs. The Cowboys face the Seattle Seahawks next, while the Lions travel to Louisiana to play the New Orleans Saints.
