Even though Colin Cowherd announced that the Dallas Cowboys would have a landslide win against the Miami Dolphins, the South Beach team were slight favorites going into the crucial matchup at Hard Rock Stadium. And it ended neck and neck in favor of the Dolphins, who edged out Dallas 22-20.
It was a statement win for the AFC side because, before the game, there was still doubt about their post-season football. But the Dallas victory secured their place as the second team from the division to qualify for the playoffs.
However, the star of the show was neither Tua Tagovaoila nor Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins duo did rack up significant game numbers for the night. Tagovailoa finished the game with 24 completions for 293 yards and a touchdown pass to Raheem Mostert.
Hill took one step closer to achieving his dream of eclipsing 2000 yards. The 29-year-old stopped just one short 100 yards from nine receptions. He leads the NFL in receiving yards with 1641 and has 12 touchdowns to his name.
But the man of the match for Miami was their place kicker, Jason Sanders. The All-Pro specialist marksman dispatched all five field goals. He opened the scoring with a 57-yard hit in the first quarter. Then he followed it up with a 52-yarder in the second and two more from 54 and 35 yards in the third quarter.
Not only that, but the most touch of the game came from Sanders. The Cowboys had taken the lead back with a Brandin Cooks 8-yard touchdown. With virtually the last kick of the game, Sanders buried the field goal from 29 yards to snatch a two-point win. After the game, the Dolphins crew celebrated the win by dancing to the tune of Wiz Khalifa‘s “We Dem Boyz” in the locker room.
Miami Dolphins players know the season isn’t over yet
As the dust settled inside the locker room, the Miami Dolphins headed back to their designated bunks and started thinking about the next game. While the Touch Cowboys exam was over, there were even bigger tasks that they needed to prepare for.

Even though it was the first time since 2000–2001 that the Dolphins qualified for the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel said the Cowboys win was one of their goals, not the ultimate goal.
This isn't our ultimate goal. We made it to the playoffs last year. But we didn't do what we wanted to do. So, we've got bigger fish to fry.
They did not have a healthy Tagovailoa last season, unlike right now. The future looks promising for Miami; if they manage to leapfrog the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC #1 seed, then they might land favorable home post-season games.
