One of the biggest games in college football is the Palmetto Bowl. An interstate rivalry game between the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks, it is always a very intense encounter. Saturday’s game between these two teams was no different. However, the game has been in the news for a different reason. South Carolina is one of the most important states in the next year’s presidential elections and winning there would be huge.

Donald Trump, the former United States president and a candidate for the next year’s election, made an appearance during the game. South Carolina is one of the early-nominating states for the 2024 Presidential elections. The voting in the state will take place in February next year. Trump was in the stadium to watch the game and got a mixed reaction of cheers and boos.

South Carolina was an important state during Trump’s successful 2016 campaign. He also defeated the current United States president, Joe Biden, in the state by 12 votes in 2020. According to recent polls, Trump has maintained a strong hold over the state and enjoys a commanding lead over his GOP rivals, including former South Carolina governor, Nikki Haley.

On the field, the Clemson Tigers took care of business and won the game, 16-7. It was a defensive battle as both the teams brought their A-game on the field. The Tigers were beaten by South Carolina last season, which hampered their postseason chances. Clemson got its revenge this season and have qualified for the playoffs.
