Back in 2020, the Minnesota Vikings hit the jackpot when they selected Justin Jefferson as the 22nd overall pick in the NFL Draft. Jefferson has had a remarkable 3 year run in the league so far. As a result, the Minnesota-based football team is set to make Jefferson one of the richest wide receivers in the league with their new offer according to reports.
Before Jefferson proved himself in the league, former United States President Donald Trump already knew the LSU product would have a successful career in the NFL.
After LSU won the National Championship under the leadership of Joe Burrow, then-US President Trump paid tribute to the college football national champions by hosting them in the White House. During the White House event, Trump made an accurate prediction of Jefferson becoming rich.
“Justin Jefferson had 14 receptions for 227 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns a college football playoff record,” said Trump before stopping his speech to give a handshake to Jefferson, who was standing behind Trump. “He’s gonna be so rich. We’re looking at money.”
Nearly 3 months after Donald Trump said that Jefferson was drafted by the Vikings in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Fast forward to 2023, Jefferson has registered 3 Pro Bowl seasons and has received 1 first-team All-Pro recognition.
In addition, he also won the Offensive Player of the Year for the 2022 season as he led the league in receiving yards. As a result, the Minnesota front office has offered a ‘record-breaking deal’ to Jefferson, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
This new contract extension will likely make Jefferson one of the highest-paid receivers in the league.
Justin Jefferson and the Vikings nearing agreement on new deal
The Minnesota Vikings and the star wide receiver Justin Jefferson are nearing an agreement on a record-breaking deal according to a report from The Athletic reporter Diana Russini.

Russini claimed that when she asked Jefferson about the deal, the wide receiver didn’t give away anything since he didn’t like discussing his business. However, she further claimed that according to her conversations in Minnesota’s camp, the Vikings could announce Jefferson’s new deal very soon.
She expects Jefferson to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league following the extension. Nonetheless, the 24-year-old receiver is not planning any holdout amidst the contract negotiations, which only implies the contract talks have been smooth between both sides.
Jefferson will now look to help Kirk Cousins and the Vikings in their quest to lift the Lombardi Trophy in the upcoming season. Their 2023 campaign is set to start with a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend.
