The San Francisco 49ers, led by their Pro Bowl quarterback Brock Purdy, are playing in the Super Bowl against the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs. During the game, the Niners suffered a massive blow as they lost their star linebacker Dre Greenlaw to an injury.

During the second quarter of the game, the Chiefs defense managed to force a punt with 9:16 still left in the quarter. Dre Greenlaw, who was watching the punt from the sidelines with his teammates, tried to rush into the field to take a defensive snap against the Chiefs.

However, the CBS cameras caught him slipping on the field, while he tried to enter. After Greenlaw fell down, he stayed on the field for some time, which shocked his teammates. He eventually stood up and was taken into the blue tent for further evaluation.

The short video of Greenlaw’s freak non-contact injury went viral on social media and accumulated more than 1.5 million views within just hours of posting. Check out the footage attached below.

Nonetheless, the 26-year-old was shortly taken to the locker room. Shortly after the medical personnel evaluated Greenlaw, the linebacker was ruled out of the game with an Achilles injury. Greenlaw was having a great game against the Chiefs as he was all over the field. He registered 3 tackles and helped the 49ers’ defense keep the Chiefs scoreless when he was in the game.

The linebacker has been one of the pivotal pieces in the Niners squad as he registered 120 tackles in the regular season, five tackles for loss, 4 QB hits, and 1.5 sacks. Losing him is a major blow for the Niners, who have to contain Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for two more quarters.

Nonetheless, Purdy and the San Francisco-based football team have managed to control the game. The Niners’ defense has been relentless and has managed to put the Chiefs in the backseat heading into halftime.

Now, they have to finish the game to win their first Super Bowl ring in Kyle Shanahan’s era. If Shanahan can win the ring with Brock Purdy, he will cement his legacy as one of the best head coaches working in the NFL.
