The ‘game manager’ comment from Cam Newton on Brock Purdy triggered a lot of controversies. It compelled everyone to take a stance on the scenario. From the analysts to the former players, everyone batted an eye to the situation.

The latest to join the bandwagon is Drew Brees, the former NFL quarterback, who hailed Purdy in the entire fiasco. He analyzed Purdy’s way of playing the game.

I think [Purdy’s] a guy that plays with poise, maturity and knowledge that’s beyond his years. Look no further than the way his teammates talk about him. His teammates love him. Yes, he’s got great players around him, and he’s the perfect orchestrator for that entire offense. It’s a lot of responsibility, especially [in] that offense — shifts, motions, timing, rhythm, what you have to create as a quarterback — a ton of responsibility falls on him.

In contrast to what Newton said, the former signal caller emphasized that Purdy does what he wants to do. He makes plays according to his will and charisma.

And he’s ready to make whatever plays he needs to make to help them win the game. He proved it [against the Detroit Lions] and we’ll see what happens on Sunday.
Drew Brees added

Brees and Purdy have one thing in common. Both have not won any MVP Awards in their careers. Though Purdy will get an opportunity to change the record as this is his just second season in the Niners, he would love to change the same in double-quick time.

Brock Purdy had a mature reply to what Cam Newton said

Purdy did not mind Cam Newton calling him a game manager. Instead, he claimed that he would be happy to be a game manager if it helped his team to win games.

If you’re saying that I’m a game manager and that I don’t look flashy in how I do it. Then that’s your opinion. That’s okay. And at the end of the day, I want to do what it takes to help my team win.
