Amid some controversies and pressures ahead of the Super Bowl battle, the Kansas City Chiefs are enjoying a bit of light air. The Chiefs defensive linebacker, Drue Tranquill, recently shared a small chat with the head coach Andy Reid ahead of the big game.

The text in discussion of Tranquill was an attempt by Reid to lure the former Los Angeles Chargers LB ahead of the 2023 season. The Chiefs head coach promised a Super Bowl to the player while talking to him on text messages.

Tranquill shared a short message on X written by the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. The message was an example of how the Chiefs tried to coax him after the player hit the free agency. The LB shared a screenshot of the message.

If you need to talk my phone is on the ring. Till then see Red and think Super Bowls

The Chiefs desperately needed a linebacker this season after the departure of Orlando Brown Jr. The defense needed a linebacker to maintain the balance and Tranquill was under their radar.

The linebacker had four seasons at the Los Angeles Chargers. However, they only appeared in the playoffs only once in that period. No wonder Tranquill was not satisfied with the team’s performance, and was on board with Reid’s big game promise.

Drue Tranquill was shocked to see that the Chargers cut him off before joining Chiefs

Before joining the heavyweights of the league currently, Tranquill was in a dicey situation. The LB did not expect the Chargers, the team that picked him in 2019 NFL Draft would cut him off. Speaking to the Ross Tucker podcast in May 2023, the LB shared that he was a bit surprised to see that he was subjected to the cut off.

Tranquill was a little surprised the Chargers didn’t want to bring me back. The LB said,

There were people in the building that really wanted me back — and there were a few people who wanted to move on. Business is business, but when you give four years so hard to an organization and it doesn’t feel reciprocated, that’s hard.

However, the LB appreciated how the Chiefs approached him. They were adamant about getting the LB at any cost. Hence, they lured the LB with a Super Bowl dream. And guess what, the Chiefs made it to the big event, and if successful, will be only the first team to win the coveted Lombardi trophy in consecutive years, after New England Patriots did in the 2004 season.
