Upset alert! On Monday, the Duke Blue Devils registered one of the biggest victories in the program’s history as they defeated the number 9 ranked Clemson Tigers 28-7. Duke quarterback Riley Leonard led the Blue Devils to a major upset in college football history. Following the dominant victory, the Duke fans celebrated by storming the field in the good old fashion.

With just 30 seconds left in the game, Duke, who were leading 28-7 were in a victory formation and took the knee to run out the clock. After QB Riley took the knee, players and fans celebrated in a big way. Duke fans rushed to the field of the Wallace Wade Stadium and celebrated with the players. Amidst the chaotic situation, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney congratulated Duke’s HC Mike Elko. Check out the footage of the celebration attached below!

This is one of the biggest victories in Duke’s history. Before tonight, the Blue Devils hadn’t beaten an AP Top 10 opponent in more than 3 decades. The last time they beat a top 10 opponent was in 1989 when the Duke Blue Devils defeated the number 17 ranked Clemson Tigers 21-17. And now, 34 years later, they have once upset the Tigers.

Dabo Swinney and Clemson’s college football playoff hopes are likely buried by this loss. They could only hope for a miracle for them to reach the playoffs even if they win out the rest of the season.

The Duke quarterback Riley Leonard had himself a solid game against a tough Clemson defense and led the Blue Devils to a dominant victory against the number 9 ranked Clemson Tigers.

Leonard completed 17 of his 33 pass attempts for 175 passing yards. Furthermore, he also carried the rock 8 times for 98 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. He was Duke’s leading rusher, and he averaged 12.2 yards per carry.

Duke’s second-year head coach was pleased with his team performance as he said in the post-game presser that this is what he “envisioned Duke could be” when he took the job.

Anyway, Duke would like to keep their momentum by winning against Lafayette Leopards, an easier opponent compared to the number 9 ranked Clemson. Nonetheless, Riley Leonard and Duke would prepare for the game the same way they did for Clemson and would like to register a dominant win against the Leopards on Saturday.
