“It was difficult,” Eagles CB Darius Slay shares his HARDSHIP in representing himself amidst Lamar Jackson contract fiasco
Lamar Jackson is struggling to get a deal done without an agent.

Despite being one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Lamar Jackson is currently struggling to get a long-term contract extension done with the Baltimore Ravens. In fact, he’s not receiving offers from any NFL franchises. His contract talks fiasco has been the talking point in this off-season.
Many people around the league believe that Lamar Jackson wouldn’t have faced this issue if had hired an agent instead of representing himself. Jackson is allegedly asking for a fully guaranteed deal in the pay range of the Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson and according to multiple reports no team is willing to pay that much money for the 2-time Pro Bowl QB.
Amidst this situation, the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay shares his two cents about why players representing themselves is a difficult job. During a recent episode of his podcast Big Play Slay, the Pro Bowl CB shared his opinion.
“I tried it and it was difficult, when I first went into trying to represent myself, they compared my contract to Aqib Talib,” said Darius Slay. “So I tried to represent myself, conversation got like intense. So it makes you feel a different way about a team.”
Slay went on to continue that he doesn’t get how players who represent themselves can tolerate disrespect from the team. “The situation with Lamar, I know he feel kind of crazy right now cause he not missing out on no conversation or no bad talk. I don’t know the situation but I know they gave him a point of view on what type of player they compared him to get him the contract.”
Will Lamar Jackson player under the franchise tag for the Ravens in 2023

After plenty of failed contract talks, the Baltimore Ravens placed Lamar Jackson under the non-exclusive franchise tag. The former league MVP QB tested the off-season market but didn’t receive offers from any team.
Now, the 26-year-old QB could either play for the Ravens in 2023 under the franchise tag with a salary of $32.4 million for one season or he can choose to sit out the entire season without playing a single snap like Deshaun Watson did in 2021.
But since there are no takers for Jackson, it looks like the former All-Pro QB would play for the Ravens and prove his worth to the franchise. Furthermore, the Ravens also recently added star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency. That might play a vital role in Lamar Jackson‘s decision.
