Philadelphia Eagles fans are a notorious bunch. It’s engraved in their history to create controversial incidents at frequent intervals. From booing their players to starting riots after losing the Super Bowl, these are just the tips of the iceberg.

Who can forget the 1968 winter, when a section of the Phillies pelted snowballs at Santa Claus? Their actions over the years have given the fanbase itself a bad name. Probably one of their lowest points came when retried NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin was severely jeered while being stretched away in 1987. The hit on his spinal cord was so bad that it could have ended Irvin’s career.

One doesn’t need to turn the clock back that long. Just in February, Eagles’ fans flocked to the streets of Philadelphia to show their frustration after losing the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. Several cases of clashes with the police, lighting fireworks, and hurling profanities were captured. Chants of “fu** the chiefs” can be heard throughout Broad Street.

However, on occasions, tables are turned onto themselves. A video surfaced of a middle-aged Eagles fan arguing with a few onlookers inside the subway. His wife was trying her best to put an end to the argument before it became something big. Unfortunately, it did.

As the train came to a halt, another man could be seen punching the man wearing an Eagles t-shirt. The other guy got off, leaving his victim lying flat on the train floor.

A football coach in Philadelphia was named the Eagles Fan of the Year

Now from the grim to the pleasing news. According to the Eagles website, a high school football coach named Tony Leneghan was named the Eagles Fan of the Year.

Leneghan plies his trade at Father Judge High School. According to CBS News, he was a student at the school and came back to coach in 1992. He grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and has been a regular at the Eagles games for the past 20 years. They shared a video on Twitter of them surprising Tony during one of his training sessions.

By becoming the Eagle of the Year, he will also be present at the Super Bowl LVIII in February. His daughter nominated him for the award. And with this, he is eligible to win the NFL Fan of the Year title. The voting ends in February, and the winner will be announced before the Super Bowl game day.
