“One of my biggest mentors,” Eagles HC Nick Sirianni explains fiery bench celebration against Colts in emotional rant about Frank Reich

“One of my biggest mentors,” Eagles HC Nick Sirianni explains fiery bench celebration against Colts in emotional rant about Frank Reich

The Philadelphia Eagles picked up their 9th win of the season, with a 17-16 result against the Indianapolis Colts. However, for Eagles HC Nick Sirianni, this victory definitely tasted sweeter than the remaining eight so far because of his special connection with former Colts head coach Frank Reich.

The Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Frank Reich a couple of weeks earlier after a 3-5-1 start to the season. The franchise then went on to bring in Jeff Saturday to replace Reich, in a move widely criticized all over the NFL. Saturday was working as an NFL analyst and had zero experience coaching an NFL team.

While the jury is still out on the hiring of Jeff Saturday, the Eagles’ head coach made his feelings heard about the firing of his former colleague. The duo has worked extensively together in the past, most prominently serving the Indianapolis Colts together. Nick Sirianni served as the offensive coordinator for two years after Reich had brought him into the franchise.

Needless to say, Sirianni has a lot of respect for his former head coach and that has sparked an emotional response from him after the much-needed victory over Jeff Saturday‘s Colts. Sirianni also acknowledged that he was hoping to come up against his mentor this week, but his wish remained unfulfilled.

The 41-year-old held himself back from speaking his heart out on Reich’s removal from the head coach position. However, he termed Reich as one of the best football coaches he has ever seen.

“I’m emotional because I love Frank Reich. I really do,” said Sirianni in his post match press conference. “He’s one of the best damn football coaches I’ve ever been around. I was hoping that he and I would be able to coach against each other this game. He is one of my biggest mentors.

“You don’t want to know what I think of if he should be here or not, but you guys can probably imagine what I really think. … It was sweet to come here, especially with what happened with this organization the last couple weeks, and get the win. The win. We’re leaving Indianapolis with a win!”
