There is a massive change in the way of operations in the New England Patriots camp. They recently fired their veteran head coach, Bill Belichick, and replaced him with Jerod Mayo. Furthermore, the organization also handed over the general manager duties to Eliot Wolf. Amidst this, the new Patriots executive, Wolf, took a sly dig at Belichick.
During a recent press conference, the Patriots’ new GM, Eliot Wolf, was asked about the change in the Patriots’ culture. While answering the question, Wolf seemingly took a shot at Belichick, who had a rough way of running his team.
Less of a hard a** vibe.Eliot Wolf said according to MassLive reporter Mark Daniels
Bill Belichick ran a tight ship in New England and was known as one of the toughest head coaches in the league. His ‘Patriots Way’ is often criticized by many experts for asking too much from the players. But, the Patriots Way seemed to work greatly as it led to the team winning 6 Super Bowl rings under Belichick.
The Patriots’ success was unprecedented and Belichick’s coaching played a huge part in that Dynasty. However, in his later years, poor quarterbacking crippled the New England-based football team, which resulted in the team parting ways with Bill Belichick following a 4-13 record in the 2023 campaign.
And now, the Patriots have added many coaching staff and a new general manager. When Belichick was the head coach of the team, he also had the duty of the general manager. Now, Eliot Wolf will take over that duty and will look to fill the big shoes of the 6-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.
Eliot Wolf has made change in Bill Belichick’s way of evaluating players
The Patriots’ new general manager and the Director of Scouting Eliot Wolf has changed the way of evaluating college prospects. Wolf opened up about his way of player evaluations in a recent press conference.
We changed the grading system. It's similar to what we did in Green Bay. The previous Patriots system was more this is what the role is, and this is more kind of value-based. It makes it a lot easier for scouts to rate guys and put them in a stack of this guy's the best, this guy is the worst, and everything in between falls into place.Eliot Wolf said via Patriots’ official website
It seems like the Patriots are trying to move away from Bill Belichick’s Patriot Way, which brought them 6 Super Bowl rings. The new era in New England has received mixed reactions from the Pats fans.
