In a shocking turn of events, the Baltimore Ravens have signed running back Derrick Henry after the Tennessee Titans released the latter. Henry was one of the big names in the free agency and with the signing, the Ravens proved that they are going for the Super Bowl with an equipped arsenal.
The Ravens provided a deal to Henry worth $20 million for two years. He will get $16 million, however, the earnings can be extended to $20 million. With the deal, the RB becomes one of the highest-paid running backs in the league.
The inclusion of Derrick Henry in the Baltimore squad has triggered comments from multiple sections. Among those, Emmanuel Acho is one. The former player-turned-analyst claimed that this would help the quarterback Lamar Jackson extend some years in his career. He also noted that Henry was perfect for the Ravens and this Ravens squad would look dangerous with the inclusion of Henry.
What Derrick Henry does, he adds one or two more years to Lamar Jackson's career. Think of quarterbacks effective and efficiently running the football. Think about Mike White, in his prime. Cam Newton his prime, Robert Griffin III, think about his prime. Acquiring Derrick Henry allows Lamar Jackson to take the trade of his tier.Acho via SPEAK
Acho noted that Jackson would be protected once Henry arrived in the scenario.
Derrick Henry has great stats behind his name
Henry joined the Tennessee Titans nearly eight years back. In less than a decade, the player has made his mark in those seasons. He covered more than 9,000 rushing yards for 90 touchdowns. He is trailing Eddie George in rushing yards who has covered more than 10,000 yards as a running back. In the 2020 season, the RB covered more than 2,000 rushing yards, which made him 9th player to do that.
The RB’s latest attempt with the Titans squad was also very successful. He was second in rushing yards (1,167) right after 49ers Christian McCaffrey and was first in receptions (280). The running back showed great perseverance on the gridiron last year. That was the reason he received multiple interest from teams after he became a free agent.
It is to be seen whether the RB shines in the colors of the Ravens or not in the coming time. The Ravens offense was a threat last season and in the coming one, they can cause more havoc.
