Emmanuel Acho rallies behind Ja’Marr Chase claiming Joe Burrow shouldn’t be Bengals’ starting QB in week 1

Acho is concerned if the Bengals rush Burrow's return, then his calf injury can get worse.

Emmanuel Acho has given his seal of approval to Ja’Marr Chase‘s thoughts on Joe Burrow taking his time to recover. According to the player-turned-analyst, he has seen injuries get worse if the player is rushed back early in the field of play.

“I have seen far too often calves turn into Achilles, and I am tired of seeing it,” Acho admitted during the latest segment of Fox Sports 1’s Speak. “Most notably, we all saw Kevin Durant cast strain turn into an Achilles.”

Most famously, in 2019, NBA star Kevin Durant suffered a supposed calf injury in NBA Finals Game 5 against the Toronto Raptors. However, the 34-year-old later released a statement saying that he had gone through surgery for a ruptured right Achilles tendon.

“I have seen calves turn into Achilles. I don’t want to see that for Burrow,” Acho said. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow picked up a calf injury early in training camp. Later, the doctors revealed that the Pro Bowler had hurt his calf. Acho reminded his co-hosts that Ja’Marr Chase is correct in wanting his teammate to take time and recover. He also pointed out that Burrow suffered an injury in practice. Imagine what would happen if an opposing player went for a sack.

“If you get hurt on the second and third days of practice and you don’t have the accrued pain and wear and tear of summer, imagine what’s going to happen in a game,” Emmanuel Acho asked.“You know you can’t hit the quarterback. But imagine if Miles Garret is chasing him.”

If the Bengals do decide to play Burrow in Week 1, they will face the Cleveland Browns. Acho mentioned last year’s Pro Bowl defensive end, Miles Garret, who had 16 sacks and 60 tackles last year. When a 6-foot-4, 272-pounder charges in for the block, it may do some damage.

Can the Cincinnati Bengals survive without Joe Burrow until week 5?

Acho’s co-host and former NFL player, LeSean McCoy, claimed that if the player feels ready to play, he will, regardless of an injury. That reason is even more poignant when it comes to Joe Burrow. The Speak’s cast all agreed that the LSU graduate is the best quarterback in the NFL who is not named Patrick Mahomes.

They unanimously agreed that the Kansas City Chiefs are the best in the AFC. However, it’s also a fact that since Burrow played against the Mahomes, he has been victorious, apart from his rookie season. They have an experienced Trevor Siemian ready to set up. However, without their primary signal-caller, the Bengals may suffer a slump in the first few weeks.
