Emmanuel Acho firmly believes Trey Lance won’t be under any pressure at Cowboys despite playing for the ‘most valuable’ sports team in the world
49ers had drafted Lance third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft giving up three first round picks.

The San Francisco 49ers‘ quarterback saga took a weird turn yesterday. Trey Lance, the first-round selection from the 2021 NFL Draft, is traded to the Dallas Cowboys. No one saw this coming. The 49ers recently named Sam Darnold as QB2 for this season. Lance was expected to be the QB1 in San Fran for a long time to come, but poor performances in the preseason games and injuries last season have prompted the 49ers to make this decision.
The reactions to this shocking piece of news have been diverse. Some feel this is a prime example of a franchise’s mismanagement of a talented QB, while others are optimistic about Lance’s chances in Dallas. Emmanuel Acho, former NFL player and current Fox Sports 1 analyst, thinks that this is a win-win situation for both the 49ers and Lance.
“Trey Lance traded to the Cowboys, thank GOD!!!” Acho wrote in the video caption on X (previously Twitter). “It had to be done. No more distraction for San Fran. They are still one of the most dominant organizations over the last 10 years. So can we quit talking about the ‘draft day error.’ [It’s] a win for San Fran.”
Acho further continued explaining how this is a win for Trey Lance. “Win for Trey Lance because he no longer expected to start. Go to Dallas, new beginnings, no pressure.” Cowboys gave up a fourth-rounder to get Lance. Acho suggested that this is a great situation for Lance as he will be expected to back up Dak Prescott and will get an opportunity to learn from a Super Bowl-winning head coach in Mike McCarthy.
Trading for Lance has put some pressure on Dak Prescott, though. He did not have a great season last year as he led the league in interceptions. So Cowboys trading for Lance means Prescott has to deliver a stellar season this year, or there is a real chance of Lance replacing him. The Cowboys begin their season against the New York Giants on September 10.
Dak Prescott under pressure with the Cowboys signing Trey Lance

The Dallas Cowboys traded for San Francisco 49ers’ third-string quarterback Trey Lance in a shocking trade yesterday. Lance was a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. After a lackluster two years in San Fran, Lance was traded to the Cowboys, which in turn puts a lot of pressure on Cowboys’ starting QB, Dak Prescott.
Prescott did not have a good season last year and this might be his last chance to solidify his position as QB1 in Dallas. Lance is a young, talented QB and will be expected to take over from Prescott whenever the Cowboys decide to move on from him.
Prescott was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Since being drafted, Prescott has been a consistent performer for the Cowboys but has failed to win the ultimate prize with the team. This might be his last chance to accomplish that. The Cowboys play their final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders tonight.
