The New York Jets experienced it all in the first week of the 2023 NFL season. The high of winning against the best team in their division for the last three years, and the low of losing their starting QB and one of the greatest of all time, Aaron Rodgers, to an Achilles injury. It was a weird weekend for the Green side of New York. Although the Jets lost Rodgers for the season, they still have a former first-round pick in QB Zach Wilson. He started this season after replacing Rodgers after replacing Rodgers and will start from now on.

Wilson had a good game against the Buffalo Bills in their season opener. He completed 14 of 21 pass attempts and had one touchdown and one interception. More importantly, he led his team to a solid victory against a very strong Bills side. Emmanuel Acho, the former NFL player and current analyst for the Fox Sports‘ show, spoke about Wilson.

“I just don’t want him to be the reason this team loses.” Acho said on the show. “You don’t have to the reason your team wins like last week. Don’t be the reason your team loses Zach Wilson. Don’t go turning the ball over a plethora of times, give your defense a chance.” Acho praised the Jets’ defense and claimed they could shut down the Cowboys. However, Wilson must perform to ensure victory.

Wilson was drafted second overall by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had a rough couple of years to begin his career and was demoted to QB2 after the arrival of Rodgers. Now, he has another chance to redeem himself and will hope for the most of it. The Jets play their next game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Zach Wilson talks about the day-to-day mentorship of ‘big bro’ Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers‘ arrival in New York meant the former second overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, Zach Wilson, had to take a backseat and serve as the team’s QB2. However, an Achilles injury to Rodgers during the Jets’ week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills put the limelight back on Wilson. He performed amicably and led his team to a thrilling win against the Bills.

While speaking to the media on Thursday, Wilson spoke about the impact of Rodgers on him and how his day-to-day mentorship helped him become a better player. “I feel like I’ve been trying to copy every little thing he’s doing, from his footwork to the coaching tips he has given us,” Wilson said. “He’s done an amazing job, more than we could ask for as quarterbacks.” Wilson said that they had a brotherly bond when asked about his visit to Rodgers’ house in January. It seems like Rodgers’ arrival has helped Wilson immensely.

Wilson will start against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and look to build on the Jets’ winning start. He scored one touchdown and had an interception in the Jets’ win against the Bills after being thrust onto the pitch following Rodgers’ injury. He hopes to have a breakout season after a poor start to his NFL career.
