The Cowboys are going into a tough offseason as their starting RBs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard’s contract is up and the team will have to make significant changes to their salary cap to accommodate them.

Pollard is going to be an unrestricted free agent whereas Elliott’s salary is $16.72 million above the salary cap. Cowboys RB Malik Davis is their only certainty currently with other RBs’ contracts in danger.

Former Cowboys’ and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith has a logical solution for the whole situation. Smith believes that Pollard should be franchise tagged while the Cowboys should make adjustments to Elliott’s contract and try to keep him in the team.

“I’m keeping both,” Smith told PFT. “I may franchise tag Pollard and I may go for a contract restructure with Zeke. But I’m keeping both, and the reason why is because we’ve got to get Pollard back healthy, and we need Zeke, and we need Malik as well. We need that three-headed monster right now to rotate. Malik gives us a chance to get Pollard time to get back healthy again.”

Pollard and Elliott both had good seasons with the Cowboys and performed very well above their standards making them highly important to the team. Pollard, made the Pro Bow for the first time in his career this season where he rushed for over 100 yards.

The Cowboys have a great roster currently but contract issues are making it thin and obsolete. The Cowboys also had a great regular season run, but failed to perform in the playoffs and were knocked out by the 49ers.

Emmitt Smith has some vital advice for the Cowboys and it’s targeted toward the receiving department. CeeDee Lamb is the only standout receiver for the Cowboys currently. Although, they signed T.Y. Hilton from the free agency last season it won’t help them a lot.

The Hall of Famer wants the Cowboys to get CeeDee Lamb some help after the Cowboys let go off Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson. “I’ve got to get CeeDee Lamb some help,” Emmitt Smith stated to PFT. “There were some other decisions that could have been made [last offseason] that would have given CeeDee Lamb the help he needed.”

The Cowboys will be starting next season with huge aspirations for the league as it has been decades since the legendary team has seen any glory in the city of Dallas.
